Determine
what type of care your pet needs. Are there special circumstances that
you need to consider when choosing the right care ie medications,
incontinence, arthritis, diabetes.
Ask your vet,
friends and family who they would recommend for pet care and follow up
with them to make sure they are satisfied with their pet’s care giver.
Meet with the pet
care specialist. Follow up on references and schedule an in-home visit
(it should be at no cost) to discuss your pet care needs. Be aware of
how your pet interacts with the care giver, their knowledge of animal
care, promptness, willingness to work with-in your pet’s normal routine.
Your pet sitter
should be bonded and insured.
Have up to date vet
records available.
Discuss diet and
feeding schedules – is the pet sitter willing to follow your
instructions (nobody knows your pet better than you ).
Discuss what will
happen with each visit.
Does the pet sitter
leave notes and what information will be on reports.
When giving a key to
the pet sitter, check the key with them – you don’t want to be on a
plane to Grenada and realize that you gave them the wrong key.
Does the pet sitter
have a contingency plan in the case of an emergency.
Are they friendly,
polite and listen to your specific needs – no matter how many pet
sittings the company handles the only one they should be concerned with
at this moment is yours !
Do they furnish a written service contract.
What are the fees for service, what do they cover and
what, if any, are the additional charges. |
